Our other tour journey was to the Mayan Walled City of Tulum. It is located on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Tulum is the Mayan word for fence or wall. One side is protected by steep sea cliffs and on the land side is a tall wall. Like other Mayan cities, Tulum has many spectacular buildings. Also in the central precinct is the Castillo, which is 7.5 m (25 ft) tall.

Tulum became a very prominent trading port of the Maya during the late Postclassic.
The tourist destination is now divided into four main areas: the archaeological site, the pueblo (or town), the zona hotelera (or hotel zone) and the biosphere reserve of Sian Ka’an.
