Identify the desired result

Write out things you are passionate about. Ask yourself: What do you want to do? Why do you want to do it? What makes you happy?

Determine the skills

List skills that you will need to achieve your career. If you are going to become a physician you will need to take pre-med courses, attend medical school, complete residency. Others may pick a completely different career path. Perhaps you want to be a professional musician in which you need to practice daily, perform, network with entertainment, create demos, find a agent, etc.

Create a plan of action

Gather as much information about the field as possible. Break down what you would have to do. For example, in terms of physician track, you will need to take the MCAT and send applications to schools. Create deadlines and have as much simpler goals as possible. For example, instead of send application by June, it is better to say: complete choice of schools by June 2, complete essay portion of application by June 10, complete each demographic portion of application by June 12, Review all materials, copy and mail all applications by June 30.
