September is Prostate cancer awareness Month- looking at the risk factors

September is prostate cancer awareness month. Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer, is the most common cancer in American men. About 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed during his life time. American Cancer Society estimates that in the United States for 2009 about 192,280 new cases will be diagnosed and 27,360 men will die of cancer.

Prostate cancer forms in tissues of the prostate (a gland in the male reproductive system found below the bladder and in front of the rectum).

There are different risk factors:

Here are some tips on finding ways to gaining energy.

  1. Make a quiet time

    No matter how extroverted on person could be, it is important to have quiet time. This is a time where you can gather your thoughts and create physical and mental space for yourself.

  2. Stop procrastinating

    Procrastination creates tremendous stress. You feel constantly pressured for time to complete a project. Successful people may procrastinate at times, but when it comes to long-term goals, many plan ahead.

  3. Write lists

    Lists can help relieve the clutter that can swirl in your head.

  1. Be kind to yourself.

    Enjoy a bath, read a good book, go out with your friends, etc.

  2. Email what’s happening at home.

    Keep your child informed about changes at home. It can be as insignificant as a new furniture. This will allow them to feel secure and connected.

  3. Try a new hobby.

    Use the extra time to take on sports or join a community program. Using the time to try something knew will keep your mind off of missing your child.
