On a trip to Walt Disney World, my fiance and I also stopped at Epcot Future World. We started at 11:30 AM and was able to enjoy 10 attractions by 8 PM.
First we went to get a FASTPASS for Test Track (a fast attraction aboard a GM vehicle), if you want to ride it. Usually by early afternoon, the FASTPASSES run out. This is Disney’s system that reduces amount of time you spend in line. It is free and you put your park pass into a machine near an attraction with FASTPASS-noted in your map. It will give you the time you can return and when you can get another FASTPASS. With a FASTPASS you usually only have to wait 5 minutes for a ride you would normally be standing in line for for an hour.
We then walked towards the Land. By this time, it was close to lunch so we ate at Sunshine Seasons. This fast food eatery has a wide variety of choices from Asian cuisine to American Food. I had a sweet sour chicken/Mangolian beef combo. After a full meal, we made our way towards the Living with the Land boat ride. It is a great multimedia exhibit, where you can learn about modern agriculture. The Land is home to a working research laboratory, where vegetables are being grown to serve restaurants nearby. After we exit the boat ride, we make our way to get a FAST PASS for Soarin’ (an exhilarating free-flying hang gliding simulation). Before exiting the Land, we make one more stop. We enter the Circle of Life Theater and watch a 20 minute film featuring Lion King characters who talk about the importance of protecting the environment.
Florida heat can really start to pick up during the summer, so we cool down by visiting exhibits in Innoventions West. Some key attractions here are interactive games, the Segway, and Fire Safety exhibits.
Next we make our way across the fountains towards Mission Space (where you can choose from two adventures to experience a simulation to outer space) and get a FASTPASS. We use our FASTPASS to ride Test Track. You are a part of a variety of tests including acceleration, breaking, environmental conditions, and barrier crash.
Next we use our other FASTPASS and ride Soarin’. This is taken from Soarin’ over California at Disney’s California Adventure Park. It is a ride that sparks all your senses. You feel as though you are hang gliding over Yosemite, Golden Gate Bridge, San Diego, Napa Valley, and Death Valley.
We then walk towards the Seas with Nemo and Friends. You board the “clamobiles” and explore the largest saltwater aquarium tank and artificial coral reef. You can even see characters from “Finding Nemo” swim among real marine life. In the tank are dolphins, sharks, manatees, and diverse sea life.
The Journey into Imagination with Figment features Figment (a cute purple penguin), who guides you through an adventure with sight, sound, smell, and music effects.
We utilize the FASTPASS and ride Mission Space. This is a space flight simulation at the International Space Training center. You board a four-person training vehicle and can choose from the high intensity version (orange team) or the low intensity experience (green team).
Right next door is Ellen’s Energy Adventure, which is a 37 minute ride filled with widescreen films featuring Ellen DeGeneres and audio-animatronic dinosaurs.
Once more the heat is taxing, so we move towards Innoventions East. This is another hands on exhibit. This Innoventions includes House of Innoventions (seeing inventive products for homes), “Don’t Waste It!” exhibit (learn about recycling, reusing, and reducing), and StormStruck exhibit (experience a hurricane simulation).
Club Cool is a great stop where you can sample free coke beverages around the world and purchase coke merchandise.
Late afternoons are a great time to ride Space Ship Earth, as there tends to be less people. This geodesic sphere features Audio-Animatronic humans who tell the story of various milestones in communication. It is a gentle ride in the “time machine” vehicle which has an interactive touchscreen capability.
We conclude the Epcot Future World day with a dinner at the Coral Reef Restaurant. This was a great seafood restaurant with great ambiance. A tank-side window gives an extra great view. It is fun spotting the various fishes and sea life.
