-Continued from Hawaii day 2 blog-
The Hawaii trip has thus far been a wonderful experience. On day 3, after eating a good Hawaiian breakfast, the family took us fishing on the South Shore. We were supposed to take the boat, but since the motor was not working we drove instead towards Hale O Lono Harbor and Kolo Wharf. We then set up fishing poles.
We had the whole beach to ourselves. The bait was squid and not much time had passed before Rocky caught a large Papi’o fish, which is a type of blue fin trevally. Our friend also caught one.
In between the wait time we had a picnic and ate fish sushi, along with Portuguese hot dog and fried chicken. Then I walked around the beach and found some coral. I even had a chance to make a rock statue as pictured below:
Not too long after that Rocky and I caught a beautiful Hawaiian Parrot Fish. It was unfortunately too small so we threw it back in the ocean. We got back to the house and uncle prepared the two Papi’o.
After filleting it, he soaked it in miso and green onions. It was so good! We spent the rest of the evening relaxing and socializing.
Stay tuned for Day 4!

use these 3 fishing tips too.1. Fish face upstream. If you are behind them, you can catch them directly in front of you.2. If you can see to the bottom of the creek, they can see you! Approaching a creek or stream from the bank often spooks fish.3. It is much easier to cast to a pocket, pool or small riffle from the center of a stream and maintain a slow retrieve. Best of all you are in an ideal position to cast effectively towards either bank.
