Travel Blog: Hawaii Trip Day 1

Recently I had the opportunity to go back to the wonderful state of Hawaii. My boyfriend, Rocky and I left LAX in the morning via Delta Airlines. Since it was a 5 1/2 hour flight, it went by pretty quickly especially because I saw the fun action movie, Eagle Eye. We were seated in the window seats so around 12 pm, we had a good view as we flew into Honolulu International Airport in Oahu.

We were greeted by Rocky’s former college roommate, who is also a local (born and raised in Hawaii). He drove us to get a lunch for take out at a restaurant called Sugoi in Honolulu. I ordered the mini garlic chicken plate which came with rice and mac salad. It was so ono grindz (delicious food).

After our food settled, our local Hawaiian tour guide drove us to several places. First stop was the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. punchbowl
It is also known as Punchbowl and is in the middle of Puowaina Crater. It is for those who served in the armed forces. His grandfather who was a private in World War II is buried here.

On the way to our next stop this was our view.

We had a clear view of the
Diamond head, which volcanic cone, noted for its unique shape.

Next we headed to our friend’s alma mater Kamehameha High School. It is a beautiful campus, closely resembling that of a college campus.

Our last stop on the drive was the Nu’uanu Pali State Wayside where have a view of the Old Pali Road. This is also the site of the where the Battle of Nu’uanu Pali took place. Because of this battle, Kamehameha V was able to unify Hawaii. We also viewed the Ko’olau Golf Course from atop Pali.pali
As can be seen from the photo, it is the toughest golf course in the nation. I hope to play soon, but with the slope of 152, it is daunting for any golfer.

We headed back to our friend’s place relaxed and then headed out for dinner. When in Hawaii, there’s in one fast food restaurant we always have to try. Zippy’s. We all had the famous chili with rice, Saimin with wonton, along with some strawberry shakes. With a full stomach, we were ready to retreat.

Stay tuned for Day 2!
