In 2008, we are still reminded of the terrible September 11th events, but our nation has moved on towards healing. Last year, I wrote a blog on how each individual can live with the memory of September 11. This year, I will focus on some of the events taking place in New York today and the resources that are available.

Events:

• World Trade Center Site Memorial Ceremony and Remembrance

  The official observance will take place at approximately 8 am through noon.

• September 11 Remembrance at Trinity Church

  At 8:46 AM, the church bells will toll to honor those who died, folled by a peace service at around 12:05-12:45 PM. An Evensong service of remembrance through readings and song will be held from 5:15-5:45 PM. The Trinity Church is located on Broadway at Wall Street.

• The September Concerts

  It is a series of free concerts located around New York city. Venues include Central Park, 42nd Street Subway Station, Rockefeller Center, World Financial Center and more. Please go to the http://septemberconcert.org for more detailed venue info.

• The New York Buddhist Church Floating Lantern Ceremony

  This ancient custom of floating lanterns represents respecting lives that have gone before us. It also represents a light of hope for peace and harmony. This event is free and open to the public. It is on Pier 40 at West Houston Street and Hudson River.

• We are Change

  All day Memorial Street Action Event

Families of September 11 is a nonprofit organization created to raise awareness of terrorism and public trauma. On their website, they offer news and support resources such as for children of September 11.
