spider web

“When spider webs unite, they can tie up a lion.” -Ethiopian proverb

No matter how hard an individual works, no one can achieve greatness by themselves. Somewhere along the way, they have gained something from someone. I liked this proverb, because it addressed teamwork and life. Individual spider webs, magnificent and strong on their own are even stronger when combined together.

3 ways to strengthen your team:

  • Identify role models for strength and motivation

These can be great leaders from the past, particular field, fictional characters, or athletes. I often read books, watch documentaries about my role models such as Warren Buffett or Tiger Woods. I find pictures or leave books by my desk to inspire me.

  • Understand the six-degree of separation concept

This is the concept that any two individuals are connected by at most five others. We often hear “don’t burn your bridges,” which essentially addressed that our world is small and we often know people in the most unlikely places.

  • Building a strong network

There are many ways people do this. For example, some participate in sports such as basketball and golf. They may join professional organizations, community fund-raisers, and business organizations. They may draw on existing relationships to meet other people. Now with the internet age, people use Facebook or LinkedIn as sources of networking.
