Recently my boyfriend and I celebrated our 5th year anniversary. People have asked me “don’t you get tired of being with one person for a long time or you must be over the honeymoon phase.” I wholeheartedly disagree. As in any relationship, there have been tough, “trying” times, but they have proved to be leaps in the evolution of our relationship. There is still the excitement of uncovering the subtleties in each other personalities that our friends and even family members may not know about. There are no words to describe the point in your relationship where you begin to have a deeper understanding and acceptance for one other.

One of my secrets to maintaining the happy relationship is spending time together no matter how long you have been in the relationship. The dinners or dates are a time where you can come together to appreciate enjoying our time together. Communication is an important part of a relationship and what better way to do it then over dinner?

For our anniversary, we enjoyed playing golf together, and then he took me out to a romantic restaurant called Roy’s Hawaiian in the new Anaheim Gardenwalk.

The food and dining atmosphere was exquisite. We were greeted by a host and promptly seated (as we had made reservations). As I opened the menu I was surprised to see that there was a letter that congratulated us on our anniversary. I was touched by this tasteful gesture. My boyfriend had told me that when he was making the reservations, they had asked whether this was a special occasion. Little did we know about this service. Our waitress was friendly and the time in which the food was brought out was perfect. My boyfriend and I both had the Summer Fusion Menu. For appetizer, we ordered a seared ahi tuni with nori and a meatball dish. For the main menu, we had a Mongolian Grilled Top Sirloin Natural Soy Mustard Butter Sauce, Wasabi Mashed Potatoes and a tiger shrimp wrapped in prosciutto with fried rice. The deserts were decadent. I had the chocolate souffle, while my boyfriend had the strawberry shortcake. To our surprise, there was another desert a chocolate souffle cake that was presented on behalf of Roy’s Hawaiian for our anniversary as pictured below:

It’s important to have “us” time especially when you are busy and to celebrate the milestones. Any relationship that is worth keeping takes time, commitment, nourishment along the way.
