On Tuesday’s blog , I talked about 6 steps that have reduced cold symptoms for me. Here are 5 more steps that have worked.
-
Gargling with warm, salt water
This is what my mom always tells me to do. It is natural and gentle on your throat. It helps to clear your throat of mucous that may be causing congestion. Even when you are not sick, it is a less invasive way of getting rid of harmful bacteria.
-
Washing your hands frequently (ABC News , MSNBC, Health A to Z )
Hands are one of the dirtiest parts of your body because it touches everything. That is why in the hospitals, restaurants, bathrooms, hand washing is highly recommended. Which leads to the next point.
-
Not touching eyes or face with hands
Because your hands accumulate so many germs it also becomes a transport vehicle. When your hands touch open areas like your eyes or your mouth, it transfers the germs into your body, causing you to be sick.
-
Hydrating yourself with plenty of water (Middlebury, Ririan Project )
When you’re sick, drinking water can help loosen phlegm. Also, it helps prevent dehydration, which is excessive water loss.
-
It has a strong smell, but it makes my sinus feel better as well as helps to soothe my throat. This can also help you rest better.
