For the first time, I saw the classic films Godfather Part I and Godfather Part II. Initially, I did not want to see it because of the violence involved, but as I kept seeing it come up as one of the best films in the century, I became curious.

It did not take long before I was captivated and completely immersed. The story was intricately developed and the symbolisms were quite profound. The actors Marlon Brando and Al Pacino aided greatly in the development of the characters.

The film captured many important themes such as importance of protecting your family and loyalty among family members. Although the violent methods were not appropriate, the intensions and values are respectable. The violent methods always led to a cycle of revenge and further killings. It is a reminder that there are always consequences to your actions. This lifestyle ultimately led to the destruction of personal lives.

Another element to this film was the power of networking. The original Godfather’s connections allowed his members to get certain jobs.

The film used the symbol of a puppet often. Within the family there were many puppet and puppeteers. It was interesting to see that play out through the story and see the role reversals. This can apply to everyday life, depending on the different roles that you may play as a parent, friend, boss, sibling, or subordinate.
