Happy Halloween Eve!
Oct 30th, 2007 by Tina
Happy Halloween everyone! For some it’s just another day, but for others it might be a fun time to go partying or taking the kids out to trick or treat. Or you might be the person handing out candies. Here are some fun facts to think about while you celebrate the day your own style:
-
Halloween originated under the name “Samhain” as a Pagan festival among the Celts of Ireland and Great Britain. This was the end of summer feast, where the dead was believed to visit the mortal world, and large communal bonfires would be lit to ward off evil spirits.
-
Halloween is shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the eve of All-Hallow’s Day or Saint’s Day
-
Here are some colors and associations:
-
Black: death, night, witches, black cats, bats, vampires
-
Orange: pumpkins, jack o’ lanterns, Autumn, the turning leaves, fire
-
Purple: night, the supernatural, mysticism
-
Green: goblins, monsters, zombies
-
White: Ghosts, mummies, and full moon
-
Red: blood, fire, demons, Satan
-
Here are also some websites that offer safety tips to keep in mind if you are going to take children trick or treating. This is meant to keep in perspective, not to instill fear:
